A birthday is a wonderful time to celebrate with smiles, joy and a great book!
The Birthday Book program allows us to add books to our library collection AND celebrate this special moment in your child’s life, now and for years to come. What better way to celebrate a birthday or special event than by sharing the gift of reading? Students are delighted to see their own names and the name of friends, family, and, maybe, even a babysitter or two, inscribed in the front book plate.
To participate in the Birthday Book program, all you need do is complete the form sent home with your child and return it to your classroom teacher with payment.
You do not need to pre-purchase the books and, in fact, we would prefer if you did not buy them in advance for the library. We are happy to do this since it allows us to keep better records and to make sure that we don’t end up with duplicates in our collection. Upon purchase, a special birthday bookplate with the student’s name and birth date will be placed in the front of the book and your child will be the first one to check out the book.
Birthday Books will be presented at the Monthly Assembly that corresponds to the child’s birth month. Summer birthdays may be recognized at the beginning or end of the school year, based on parental request; our default is to celebrate May and June birthdays at the May assembly and July and August birthdays at the August assembly.
Please note: In order to get the books processed before the Assembly, we request that all selections be made by the week before the scheduled Assembly. If a selection is made during the Assembly week, the book will be presented the following month during Assembly.
The Birthday Book program is strictly voluntary. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to stop by the library or email Miss Katie at kmitchell@heritageschool.com.
Thank you for supporting this great program and the media center!
